Creativity Empowerment Potential (CEP)Evolution

Ovr Actv Imagination in Partnership with Continental society Tri Cities Virginia Chapter Presents CEP Evolution (Creativity, Empowerment, and Potential). CEP Evolution’s goal is to provide STEAM-H (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics and Health) opportunities to youth in the tri cities area, in the form of a Makerspace experience. Makerspaces shape and grow to what the members of the organization and the community feel. Offering a Makerspace exploration experience in Petersburg will connect the 3rd- 12th grade youth of Petersburg, Va Tri-city area with mentors in the field and resources to grow in their craft.


Day 1

On the first day thirty students grade 4th-7th, filled into Foster Hall at VSU. We began with a circular seminar.

  • What is your Creativity Potential, and how can we Empower them to achieve it.

  • Emotional intelligence and how to work with a team

  • Career Options

  • Building a Closed Circuit

    • Light an LED by creating a power circuit on a breadboard

  • How can you empower yourself by using your passions


Day 2

  • How can you prepare for your future now

  • End to food deserts with hydroponics and personal agriculture

  • Build your own hydroponics unit

    • Using a 16 oz bottle, growing media, nutrient solution, and water, students created a rudimentary hydroponics unit to grow pumpkin, sunflower, peppers, and marigolds.

  • Intro to 3D printing and Modeling

  • Using your diaphragm

  • Creating personal ecosystems


Day 3

  • Personal Branding

    • Projecting your voice to make a clear first impression

    • Handshaking and eye contact

  • Robotics Programming

    • Students work in teams to build and program a robot

  • Computer Aided Drafting & 3D modeling

    • Students get hands on experience with engineering drafting and design programs.

  • Program Wrap Up

    • What new interests have students developed

    • How to network

    • Personal education and lifelong learning.
